To make Suno create the beat you want:
- Select “Instrumental” mode to generate beats without vocals.
- Write a specific prompt: Include genre, mood, key instruments, tempo (BPM), and any style references.
- Example: “Instrumental only, Upbeat hiphop beat with punchy drums, funky bass, and bright synths, 93BPM”
- You can also press on the “Gives your prompt a creative boost Button” on the Style Description to boost your prompt. In my case, my prompt above got arranged to this. “An upbeat instrumental hip hop track at 93BPM, driven by punchy, syncopated drums and a groovy, prominent funky bassline. Layers of bright synths add energy, with crisp hooks and occasional synth stabs. Strategic breaks highlight the groove, maintaining momentum and danceable movement.” Note that hust because a prompt is boosted doesn’t mean the song will be good, and sometimes a simpler prompt works better.
- This is what I got: https://suno.com/s/4kGzjzDsLT8pKiHg
- Use Custom Mode or upload your own audio for more control. I guess, if you already have your own audio file, you are a beatmaker yourself.
- Iterate: Refine your prompt and regenerate until satisfied.
- Download and edit if further customization is needed.
One More Thing: Even if I set BPM in the prompt, it may not become the said BPM, which is annoying. The more annoying part is that BPM on Suno is “variable”, and it changes as you play along. You can see that happening when playing back the audio in the editor screen. Because of this, you might have a hard time adding rap vocals in a DAW.
