What is punching in and out when recording rap?

It’s about re-recording specific parts of a performance. 
Punch-in means starting recording at a timing of your choice while recording, and punch-out means stopping recording at a timing of your choice while recording. By using punch-in and punch-out, you can re-record only the parts where you made a mistake while playing.
