I would like to share one key insight I’ve learned through my experiences with WordPress site management. Specifically, when running an online shop and a blog, it’s easier to manage them on separate sites than on a single one. If you use the WooCommerce plugin for your online shop and the Simple WordPress Membership plugin for your blog, these functions can operate without interfering with each other, leading to more efficient management.
Firstly, both WooCommerce and Simple WordPress Membership are excellent plugins. WooCommerce provides all the functions required for an online shop, including product sales, stock management, and payment processing. On the other hand, Simple WordPress Membership takes care of all the features required to run a blog, such as membership management, content restriction, and offering special benefits to specific members.
However, a problem arises when you install these two plugins on one site: the user registration process becomes complex. Users must register on WooCommerce to purchase products and then register again on Simple WordPress Membership to become a blog member. This dual registration process can be cumbersome for users and can degrade the overall user experience of the site.
Furthermore, when customers of the shop and members of the blog are mixed, it becomes difficult to provide services and communication tailored to each group’s needs. This could potentially lead to a decrease in customer satisfaction and a loss in marketing efficiency.
Therefore, the solution I propose is to operate separate WordPress sites. In other words, have one site for running an online shop with WooCommerce and another for managing a blog with Simple WordPress Membership. With this approach, users only need to register on the site relevant to their needs, improving the user experience.
Also, operating two separate sites has performance and security advantages over having two major features on a single site. The risk of plugin conflicts or one plugin affecting another when updated is also reduced.
These are the reasons why I recommend operating your shop and blog on separate sites. These insights are based on my experiences and may not apply to all cases. However, if you’re struggling with managing an online shop and a blog on WordPress, I would encourage you to consider this approach.
