Have you ever paid 50 credits to extract stems from a song on Suno, only to have the system generate just two audio parts? I have. 50 credits is a significant amount, so it was pretty shocking. Where is my bass? It seems like it is still mixed with the keyboard..

Apparently, Suno’s stem extraction can generate up to 12 different stems…

The feature should make it possible to download and edit up to 12 individual stems. In my experience with instrumental tracks, I usually got about 4 or 5 stems at most.

But this time, when I tried to extract stems, I ended up with just two parts. That’s pretty unbelievable.

Why did I only get two stems?

  • AI made a mistake: Suno’s music isn’t made from layered multi-tracks, but instead is generated as a single mixed audio file. So, separation is done by generation too. The algorithm has to create new audio on the fly based on the input. Maybe some kind of error happened during this process.
  • Song structure limitations: Some songs might have a structure that makes the extraction harder.
  • Technical problems or bugs: It could just be a bug.

And I just lost my credits

Since stem extraction costs 50 credits, maybe it’s worth contacting Suno support about this. But honestly, reaching out for 50 credits is kind of a hassle. It’s a tricky situation. I don’t want to risk wasting another 50 credits if I try again and it fails. If it does fail again, I’ll have no choice but to contact support next time.
