When your beats aren’t selling for a long time, the thought “maybe I should just give them away for free” inevitably crosses your mind.

It feels better to have someone use your work, and it’s hard to bear the idea of your carefully crafted beats gathering dust on your hard drive, never reaching anyone. Have you ever felt that way?

To be honest, I’ve been through that phase myself. I wanted to sell my beats, but they just wouldn’t sell. I wanted recognition, but my music wasn’t reaching anyone. Unable to stand that empty space in between, I ended up releasing some of my older beats as free beats.

In this article, I’ll talk openly about why I released free beats during a period when nothing was selling, what I learned from that experience, and how I’m now connecting those experiences to paid sales.

To everyone out there making beats: the feelings you have right now truly matter.
