You can’t get there by doing it alone. You can’t get there by buying and selling beats. Only when artists and producers use their respective expertise and talents, work together with mutual respect, and work toward a common goal can they create great music.

It’s all about marketing and individuality.

If you’re using a computer, a condenser microphone is fine. If you’re using a smartphone, you can use apps like Voloco or Rapchat, and Apple’s wired earphones with a microphone are fine.

Use a vocoder.

If the vocals are too shrill, try using a de-esser. Turn the knob until the sound is no longer shrill. But be careful not to make the sound too round.

Examples are reverb, delay, chorus, pitch correction, EQ, de-esser, and compressor.

I’d say Voloco or Rapchat apps are the way to go these days.
