Domain

domain (or domain name) refers to an address on the internet that identifies a website or online resource. It is a human-readable name that is translated into an IP address to connect users to a server.

  • Examples: google.comwikipedia.orgyourwebsite.net

Key Components of a Domain Name:

  • Second-Level Domain (SLD): This is the main part of the domain, e.g., “google” in google.com.

  • Top-Level Domain (TLD): The suffix, such as .com.org.net.

  • Subdomains: Additional parts of the domain that precede the SLD, e.g., mail.google.com.

Domains are registered and managed through organizations called domain registrars.
